I saw Will Eisner’s The Spirit today with Tim, Kathy, Dan, Andy, Victoria, and Landon at Rivertown. It was directed and written by Frank Miller, starring Gabriel Macht as The Spirit/ Denny Colt, Samuel L. Jackson as The Octopus, Eva Mendes as Sand Saref, Scarlett Johansson as Silken Floss, Jaime King as Lorelei Rox, and Sarah Paulson as Ellen Dolan.
Yesterday, I went with Tim, Brad, Andy, and Richard to the prerelease for Magic: The Gathering’s newest expansion, Future Sight. We went to the one in Detroit, more specifically it was at the Rock Financial Center in Novi. We saw Casey, Jamie, Andy S., and a few other Grand Rapids Magic Players there too. Tim and I played in Flight 7, while pretty much everyone else played in Flight 6 (32-players each). Team Grand Rapids didn’t fare too well at this prerelease. I came in 7th place and won 6 packs. Casey also won 6 packs, and Jamie won like a half-box or a box.
The deck I built was G/B. It mostly was Green fat with Black creature removal. My first match I lost to a deck with serious life gaining (Soul Loop, plus others) and flyers. Flyers were a problem the second match too, but I got 1-0-1. I was able to pull out enough wins to make it into seventh - yay!
After MTG, Tim, Brad, and I header over to Steve’s and Gina’s Birthday Party at Laser Quest. We all had a lot of fun. I lost to Brad and Tim at air hockey. About 30 people played in three rounds of laser tag. I really enjoyed it - it was my first time playing. Tim took first the first round, third the second round, and I do not remember for the third. Brad and I were around 20th place the first round. Brad improved a lot the second round, and I improved a little. After we were all done having fun and wishing Steve and Gina well we headed to GR.
I received a welcome visit this weekend from Andy, Victoria, Tim, and Josh. I was able to show off my new place and then I gave them a tour of New Buffalo. We also fit in lunch at the Red Arrow Road House and dinner at the Stray Dog. We had fun checking out the nice homes along Marquette Drive, and skipping stones at the beach. I almost won at Texas Hold’em, but Andy took the prize. (Not to self: do not try to buy the pot when you got nothing and your opponent probably has a decent hand!) Thanks for coming out guys!
I celebrated Brian’s birthday in Greenville with the family, but without Brian - he was sick. :-/ Later I celebrated getting my new job with Victoria, Landon, and Josh at Logan’s, and then at the Hideout.
Big thanks to Victoria and Andy for inviting me, along with Tim and others, to their friends’ big party last Saturday. It was at a loft in downtown GR and there was probably 120 to 150 people there partying along until after two. The party throwers had live bands there ranging from rock to polka to bagpipes!
Despite it being a loud music and drinking type of party I did enjoy myself. Particularly after I settled into “purring” with one of the girls there. :)
Sunday’s regular Anime Night devolved into two-player video gaming, but oh well. But I did enjoy De and Holly’s company when I returned from GR to Lansing that night. I love you guys!
